Tie backs curtain, fabric curtain tiebacks, tassel fringe, and trim tassels come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and in an extensive band of colors. The fabric also varies from medium-level to designer fabric, depending upon customer and market needs. Take the Venetian tassels and tie-backs, for instance, which provide an archetypical class for floor-to-ceiling pooled silk drapes, as well as plain tassels that can make striped curtains look extremely pretty. Trims are just the thing used to enhance upholstery including (but definitely not limited to) draperies and pillows. You can also include slipcovers and ottomans in this list.
Durability. This might not be an obvious consideration, but you should always think about who will be using the room. A delicate, soft fabric is fine for a formal living room, but you wouldn't want to decorate a children's playroom with it. Typically, woven patterns are more durable than printed ones, and higher thread counts also provide a longer lifespan. Though these upholstery fabrics may be more expensive, their durability makes up for the cost.
Style. First and foremost, you want to try to match the style of your furniture with the style of the upholstery fabric. For example, if you are re-upholstering an antique piece, it would look very out-of-sorts to cover it in polka-dot fabric. In addition, some fabric styles create a casual appearance while others are more formal. Ultimately, how do you want your room to be perceived? How do you want your own style reflected by your furniture? Many patterns may make an attractive addition to your room, but you should always take some time to try to see the big picture and choose a style that fits the furniture, the room, and your personality.
Of course there are downsides and when choosing which fabric is the right match for your design and lifestyle, it is important you know and understand both sides of the coin. Cotton tends to wrinkle, which can be rather frustrating, especially when using the material for furniture. It also tends to shrink, which means while cleaning is easy, you need to take care.
